Maintaining Stewards Ancient Meadow
For the last four years we have helped Harlow Conservation Volunteers (HCV) maintain the meadow. The HCV cut the grass with an industrial lawn mower and hand held scythes then we gathered up the cut grass and piled it up into compost heaps.
For the last four years we have helped Harlow Conservation Volunteers (HCV) maintain the meadow. The HCV cut the grass with an industrial lawn mower and hand held scythes then we gathered up the cut grass and pile it up into compost heaps. This year we finished cutting the grass really early, because there were so many students helping, so we set about cutting back the dogwood in the centre of the meadow and opening up paths between the blackthorn and hawthorn bushes. The meadow looked very tidy when we had finished. At the end of the day we picked some apples to take home.
