Phoenix Daze on the Rampage

On the 18th of June, our two teams, Phoenix Knights and Phoenix Daze, took part in the Selex Galileo Rampaging Chariot Competition at Basildon, accompanied by Mr Andrew Young and Mr Dan Treamer. This was the first time that we had entered two teams - the Phoenix Knights comprising Adam Pope, Matthew Allen and Stephanie Pope and the Phoenix Daze comprising Tyler Hampson and Thomas Goodenough. The competition has three events, the Assault Course, Sumo, and Football. Tyler, driving for Phoenix Daze, showed how it is meant to be done and produced the fastest timed Assault Course result ever seen in the history of the event - 28 seconds, when most are satisfied with a minute!  Unfortunately, this was not repeated in the final but he came a creditable second beating a great many very experienced teams. Tyler managed to get to the semi finals in the Sumo, another good result in a field of 26 teams. The football was not our best event but Stephanie Pope, driving for Phoenix Knights, gave us a brilliant demonstration of rampaging ballet! The BBQ proved to be a hit too! Our special thanks to Mr Paul Thompson who helped prepare the teams but was unable to attend the event.

Matthew Allen (10RA) said: ‘My experience at Rampaging Chariots went well. I enjoyed doing the Sumo. It was good fun although we didn’t do as well as last time. It was the taking part that counted the most and we will do better next time.’

Tyler Hampson (8MS) said: ‘I enjoyed it because I got to the semi-final of the Sumo and the final of the Assault Course however lost by five seconds.’
