Cultural Food Event 2013
Stewards Academy held its 8th Annual Cultural Food Event this week and hundreds of people from the local community came along to celebrate the cultural diversity of the staff and pupils. Over 30 countries were represented with an array of delicious food available. Organisers Marie Erwood, Assistant Headteacher and Eman Mohamed, Science teacher were delighted with the turn out. Dancers performed a traditional African dance and a Bollywood routine was very well received. Many past pupils came back to join the celebration which is now a really popular local event, and even parents of pupils who left Stewards several years ago still come along to bring dishes and be a part of an event which is valued by all who take part.
Over 50 pupils wore authentic national costumes which added to the flavour of the occasion. Almost £400 was raised by this event and the money will go to a special fund that Stewards has set up in memory of Hira Shakoor, who died a year ago in a house fire with her mother, sister and brothers. This money will be used to sponsor a young girl abroad in her education, in Hiras’ memory. This is one event in a calendar of events throughout the year which celebrates cultural diversity at stewards.
