Stewards Academy hold 'careers and preparing for the future' sessions

STEWARDS Academy held a ‘careers and preparing for the future’ enrichment morning for Year 10 as part of the Careers Development Programme.
Students experienced a range of sessions including financial literacy- budgets, credit and debt led by the maths department, covering letters and formal letter writing led by the English department, and looking at social media profiles- the dos and don’ts.
We were also very lucky to have external visitors in from the recruitment sector that delivered talks on CV writing, the importance of first impressions and interview skills. Students were able to use what they had learnt to draft their own CVs, supported by staff, in preparation for their mock interviews that will take place later in the year.
Our independent Careers Advisor, Claire Hurst, was in for the day to introduce herself, support students, and start looking at CVs. Year 10 students will begin their one-on-one careers meetings in the summer term, so this was a great opportunity for them to meet Claire.
Staff leading the various sessions were impressed with the students focus and participation as they took on board lots of new information.
One student said: “This morning has really helped me understand more about how to prepare for my future. I know what to include in my CV and target areas to work on.”
Another student said: “I found the talks by the visitors interesting. They definitely made me think about what employers are looking for.”
Di da Vighi, Careers Lead, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Eamonn from Realise Education, and Millie, Grace and Georgia from Coyle Education for taking the time to present to our year 10 cohort today. Students listened attentively and took on board lots of top tips for their CV writing and interview skills. They also learnt about the role of the recruitment consultant and how this may be something they use in the future as they seek employment. My thanks to everyone that led or supported the sessions, it has been invaluable for our young adults.”
