Cultural Food Event

We held our 6th Annual Cultural Food Event on Thursday 13th October and threw our doors open to hundreds of people from the school and local community. Year 11 organisers Matt Walton and Liley Masuku, who are the Year 11 Heads of the Ethnic Minority Pupil Voice Group, were delighted with the turnout and the variety of foods on offer. Over 20 countries were represented with a feast of culinary delights ranging from England, Bangladesh, Jamaica, Latvia, Ireland, Portugal, America, Italy, South Africa, Egypt, Germany, France, Poland and China. For the 1st time, because of the popularity of this event in recent years an entry fee was made and this meant that a more manageable crowd of approximately 500 people came to celebrate the cultural diversity of Stewards and the surrounding community. The money raised will go to the school in Ghana which Stewards is paired with. Mrs McIntyre a visiting parent said “The whole thing has been brilliant, the variety of food was excellent, it has been a wonderful event”. Another visitor ex-pupil Kylie Brooke said “Absolutely brilliant for the 6th year running such a beautiful thing to see people from all cultures enjoying themselves “Governor Jeanette Baldwin said “Amazing! Wonderful atmosphere, food and entertainment. Lovely to see the effort people have put in and the Efua Sey Musical Group only enhance this event! So much energy is evident in the hall.”

Organiser Assistant Headteacher Marie Erwood MBE said “This is the event at Stewards which gives me the greatest pride. To see hundreds of pupils, staff, parents and members of our local community all coming together to celebrate the diverse nature of the Stewards Community gives me enormous pleasure. I would like to thank everyone who brought along food at a time when we are all tightening our belts”.
