Exploring what the Capital has to Offer

Stewards Academy Art and Photography department took GCSE pupils to explore the amazing sites available in London; these included the V&A Museum and Tate.

Year 11 pupils visited the V&A Museum as part of the preparation for the Art and Photography exams. As part of the GCSE pupils are expected to explore the work of other Artists, Makers and Cultures and use these to explore and develop ideas. The V&A Museum contains a variety of different objects collected and of interest to the Victorians. These include, sculpture, paintings, textiles, ceramics and jewellery from places like Europe, Asia, China, Japan and the Middle East.

Year 10 photographers explored London on foot, led on a walking tour by staff, enabling them to take a vast variety of photographs. The day was fabulous with blue skies and sunshine providing a great backdrop. The tour started at Liverpool Street, headed down to St Paul’s Cathedral, on to the Tate and then for the final part of the afternoon Borough Market; where students got to test out their photography skills and also some tasty treats!

Helen Martin, Subject Leader for Art and Photography said: “The pupils that attended both trips were a credit to the Academy. Their interest and enthusiasm as we explored the different sites was brilliant to see. They have lots of ideas to bring back for their own coursework and exam work.”
