Higher National Diploma Performance

GCSE Drama students at Stewards Academy were treated to a performance ‘Behind Closed Doors’ by a previous Stewards student, Chris Richards, and his fellow peers from Hertford Regional College for a performance ‘Behind Closed Doors’.

As part of their Higher National Diploma (HND) course the group devised their own piece of theatre-in-education work around the issue of domestic abuse and the impact this can have. The students have created a powerful piece of work that showcased all of their performance skills. The group decided to perform in-the-round and use forum theatre, allowing the audience to make decisions for the characters at different stages of the story.

One audience member said: “I really enjoyed the performance and found the way they portrayed the topic to be very powerful.”

Another said: “I thought the performance was very informative. It helped everyone to see an issue that is often forgotten about. It was also helpful to learn more about the college and HND course.”

Di Johnson, Head of Performing Arts, said: “This was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about the opportunities at HRC and see high-quality devised work. It was a pleasure to see the journey Chris has been on since leaving Stewards and how his performances have gone from strength-to-strength.”
