Stewards pupils perform at Shakespeare Schools Festival

Thirty-seven students from Stewards Academy thoroughly enjoyed participating in this year’s Shakespeare Schools Festival. Casts performed two plays, ‘Othello’ and ‘The Comedy of Errors’ to a packed house.

There were plenty of nerves on the day of the performance but lots of excitement too. The students conducted themselves superbly throughout the day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

One student said: “I really enjoyed it because it gave me a chance to prove myself and be part of a team.” Another said: “I’m so glad I was part of this play. It was probably one of the best experiences ever…I didn’t want to get off the stage!”

After the four performances the Stewards casts, alongside those from Burnt Mill and Epping St. John’s were given appraisals of their performances. It was wonderful to hear the praise offered to all of the performers, it was thoroughly deserved. In brief, SSF said The Comedy of Errors “truly did sparkle” and Othello was “honest and powerful”.

Di Johnson, Head of Performing Arts said: “This is the ninth year Stewards has taken part in SSF and we find it is such a wonderful experience for those involved. Students learn so much through the process and having the chance to perform on a professional stage is one not to be missed. The students have been a real credit to the Academy and a pleasure to work with.”

Since the performances Stewards pupils have received fantastic appraisals from Shakespeare Schools for their hard word, please see copies of them below.
