'Perfect'

Year 9 students at Stewards Academy were lucky enough to see a performance of the play ‘Perfect’ by a professional group sponsored by Essex Highways Road Safety Division. This play is being shown in many schools around Essex in an attempt to reduce road casualties.

The play is based on a true story, revolves around a family based in Liverpool, which comprises of mum, dad, and three children who all have their distinct, and often amusing personalities.

Things take a very dramatic and powerful turn for the worse when the youngest daughter in the family is involved in a very serious car crash. Her injuries are more severe due to her not wearing a seatbelt.

The students found the message about the importance of wearing seatbelts very powerful and engaged very well in the question and answer session afterwards.

As part of the message being delivered, each child was given a packet of forget-me-not seeds for planting. The packages contained very useful information to keep safe when travelling in a car: always wear a seat belt, turn your mobile phone off, do not speed, or drink and drive.

One student said: “It really made me think about why it is important to wear my seatbelt in the car. I felt sorry for the family involved.”
