Junior Maths Challenge

80 KS3 students from Stewards Academy took part in the Junior Maths Challenge 2017 with great success.

The challenge involves students answering 25 questions under exam conditions with results compared to schools across the UK. The top 40% of students nationally receive a gold, silver or bronze certificate in the ratio 1:2:3 and each institution receives a Best in School certificate.

This year over 50% of students received a certificate with 5 golds, 10 silver and 30 bronze, a fantastic achievement!

The ‘Best in School’ award went to Esther Ntow. She said: “This is the second time I participated in the Maths Challenge so I knew what to expect. My maths class and I worked hard to achieve the best results and receiving this award is a real honour.”

Leanne McDevitt, Subject Leader for Mathematics, said: “We were so delighted with the results this year and so proud of our students. Our results were our best yet which shows the resilience and problem solving skills shown by our students have really improved over recent years. “
